FILM CRITIC PLAYING CARDS
WIM WENDERS EDITION
This project required a 52 playing card deck, inclusive of the joker and packaging for a card series called ‘Film Critic’ focusing on the director Wim Wenders. The cards series are a unique deck that celebrates the artistry of cinema through a contemporary lens.
I illustrated three main characters for each deck to represent the King, Queen and Jack. I based the Heart and Diamond decks off two coloured films, Paris, Texas and Perfect Days, and the Spades and Clubs deck off two black and white films, Wings of Desire and and Alice in the Cities
Each illustration consisted of a flat base layer.
And with pencil detail over the top.
In my conceptualisation, the still shots of the cult classic Paris, Texas inspired my designs. Focusing on the unique characters that hold the weight of Wim Wenders films.
